Scottish Gadda Juniors 2012 – Rules
Eligible Works and Timeline
Scottish Gadda Juniors. Stage 1. Closing date: 15 May 2012. Creative Writing and Other Media Competition open to secondary schools (S4, S5, S6) in Edinburgh and Glasgow. In the first selection schools and individuals may submit short detective stories or dialogues for the stage. Entries must be written in English, be no more than 2,000 words long and detect-discover-explore Italy through the setting. This may be understood in the broadest sense, and entries set, for instance, in the Italian communities outside Italy, e.g., in Scotland or in the UK more generally, are eligible and welcome as they will complement our research and public engagement projects in Italian Diaspora Studies (Benedetti Scholarships Project and Di Ciacca Postdoctoral Fellowship). The 24 Junior Semifinalists will be announced on 1 June 2012. The Junior Semifinalists Workshop will follow at the end of June – the 12 Junior Finalists will be announced on that occasion.
Stage 2. Closing date: 1 August 2012. Stage 2 of the Competition, Other media, is open to the 12 Scottish Junior Finalists only. Stage 2 submissions may consist in one of the following: photo porfolio (max 5 photos), film (max 3 mins), 1 event poster, 1 book cover illustration, 1 installation (recorded through photo portfolio, max 5 photos, or film, max 3 mins). Other Media submissions must develop the detecting Italy angle of the written submission. Poster submissions based on the written submission must be pitched for an Edinburgh Gadda Prize event. Similarly, book cover illustrations must be pitched for a real commission and attempt to connect written submission to the general prize themes (detective genre, detecting Italy, communities, italian communities outside Italy, story-telling, junior entrants, other media). Stage 2 entries must be submitted on dvd. The 6 Scottish Junior Winners will be announced on 20 August 2012, with the Award Events and Ceremony to take place on 22 September 2012.
Closing dates: 15 May 2012, 1 August 2012
