Federica Pedriali is Professor of Literary Metatheory and Modern Italian Studies and Head of Italian at Edinburgh University. She is the Founder, Director and General Editor of the EJGS, Edinburgh Journal of Gadda Studies, and Executive Director and Prize Committee Chair of the Edinburgh Gadda Prize. A member of the Editorial Boards of Contemporanea, Scuola Normale Superiore, Pisa, Quaderni di Italianistica, Canadian Society for Italian Studies, and Simplegadi, Udine University, she is also on the Advisory Board of a new web project inspired by EJGS, Mosaici, St Andrews Journal of Italian Poetry, directed by Dr Rossella Riccobono, University of St Andrews.
Federica has published extensively on the contemporary canon (among her authored books, Altre carceri d’invenzione. Studi gaddiani, 2007, and La Farmacia degli incurabili. Da Collodi a Calvino, 2006), and has been awarded various prizes for her own published research (Selezione Arché 2007; Runner-up Premio Mario Soldati 2006; Nuove Lettere 2005). Through EJGS, she has also published influential works of reference such as A Pocket Gadda Encyclopedia (2012 print edition, 4 volls, 1200pp. – online editions 2008, 2004, 2002). Her current projects – the Decennial Special Edition of the Edinburgh Gadda Journal, GIRS Great Irregulars, the new series il Gaddus, Baroque Gateways and the Nicola Benedetti Scholarship Fund – combine a strong theoretical drive and a highly collaborative research ethos; while her original EJGS training programme, through which she has fostered early career researchers since 2000, is expanding through IPSE, Italian Postgraduate Society of Edinburgh, of which she is Honorary President and Patron, and a variety of public engagement initiatives such as Gadda Giovani 2011 and Scottish Juniors 2012.
