Andrea Silvestri is Professor of Power Systems Engineering at the Politecnico di Milano, where he also directs courses on the history of the Politecnico and Industrialisation. His technical expertise on the diverse aspects of power system anaylsis is attested by over one hundred publications and presentations in Italy and internationally. He has worked with some of the most illustrious names in the field on some of the most important projects of the age, and is President of the technical committee of CEI (The Italian Society of Electrical Engineers), and a director of AEIT, the successor to L’Elettrotecnica, the magazine of the Italian Association of Electrical Engineers. His interest in the history of technology, and electrical engineering and the history of the Politecnico di Milano in particular, has seen him involved in a vast number of conferences, symposia, exhibitions, publications, multimedia projects and in the creation of series of publications. He has worked on Carlo Emilio Gadda in Italy and abroad in various formats (conferences, exhibitions, books, articles, readings), and particularly with reference to the importance of the Politecnico di Milano in the life of Gadda as electrical engineer, as well as Gadda’s writings on technology and science. Silvestri was jointly responsible with Dante Isella for the collection of these technical writings in the 5 volume edition of the Opere di Gadda published by Garzanti (1988-1993). He is a member of the dell’Istituto Lombardo-Accademia di Scienze e Lettere and the Società Storica Lombarda.
