Margaret Rose holds the Chair of British Theatre Studies at Milan State University. She spends part of the year in the UK for her writing and researches. She has published mainly in the area of contemporary theatre, Shakespeare in performance and women’s writing. Publications include, Monologue Plays for Female Voices, Turin,1996; Political Satire and Reforming Vision in Eliza Haywood’s Works, Milan, 1996; Storia del Teatro Inglese, l’Ottocento e il Novecento, Rome, 2002; She co-edited A Theatre That Matters; a Collection of Essays on Scottish Theatre, Milan, 2000, Caledonia Dreaming, an Anthology of Contemporary Scottish Plays, Salerno, 2001 and Scottish Italian Connections and Identities, the proceedings of a symposium held at QMUC and Glasgow University, Edinburgh, 2001. I Confess, a Collection of Monologues, Edinburgh, 2008. She writes and translates for the theatre and radio. Recent works include Alice, an adaptation of Alice in Wonderland for Milan’s Piccolo Teatro and a co-translation of Alan Bennett’s The History Boys at Milan’s Elfo Puccini theatre. A rewrite of Shakespeare’s The Tempest, Caliban’s Castle was published by the London review, Plays International, 2008. She co-wrote, You in Me\Me in You, Mary and Percy Shelley, directed by Massimo Navone, Teatro Astoria Lerici, and Swiss Radio, 2009. She invented the original concept and dramaturged Shattered Head, devoted to the life and artwork of Eduardo Paolozzi, written by Graham Eatough, at Glasgow’s Oran Mor and Edinburgh’s Traverse Theatre, 2010. She has co-directed festival-symposiums such as, Scotsfest, partners, Milan University, British Council and CRT theatre, 1996; Italian Scottish Connections and Identities, partners, Milan University, QMUC, Glasgow University, Gateway Theatre, Italian Institute of Culture, 2000; Scambiare, partners, RSAMD, CCA, Suspect Culture, Milan and Strathclyde Universities, 2003. She has led two EU Arianne theatre translation projects and a theatre workshop in Trento during the European Year of Languages in 2002. The project, «WWW.5Terre, Walking, (a)Wakening and Writing on the Cinque Terre», a partnership between Milan, Glasgow, Svged Universities and Parco delle Cinque Terre, was awarded EU funding in 2009.
