Laura Barile taught Italian Contemporary Literature at the University of Bologna and Siena. She was Professeur Invité at the Université de Montréal, Visiting Professor at the University College London and Fulbright Visiting Professor at the University of Chicago in 2006. She received the Ossi di seppia 1991 Prize, The Calvino inedito 1997 Prize, the Accademia dei Lincei per letterature europee 2007 Prize and the Edinburgh Gadda Prize 2010. She wrote fiction, translations, 10 books of essays on Italian and European Literatures, specially focused on Eugenio Montale, Vittorio Sereni and Amelia Rosselli.
