Bethan Owen is the Development Officer for Modern Foreign Languages at the Children and Families Department of Edinburgh City Council. As such, Bethan supports Edinburgh schools in developing learning and teaching in languages in all sectors. In this role, Bethan organises programmes for Continuous Professional Development for teachers, plans and hosts major events and conferences and maintains close links with partner agencies across Scotland and further afield. Bethan was a member of the writing team responsible for creating the Outcomes and Experiences for Modern Languages under the new Scottish Curriculum for Excellence. Alongside this development role, Bethan continues to teach part-time at Sciennes Primary School in Edinburgh. Until recently, Bethan worked with Edinburgh company, Powerlanguage, to create innovative software for use in teaching languages to primary and early secondary pupils.
