EJGS International Conference (Archived)
City effects, city defects
Roxburghe Hotel, Charlotte Square
Friday 18 - Saturday 19 June 2010
Whether it is baroque Rome, migrant modern Milan, or classical Georgian Edinburgh, as in Annie Griffin’s BBC drama New Town, planning and changing the City through real or fictional development is a temptation only few manage to resist.
City effects city defects looks at textual deconstructions of the City taking its cue from Gadda’s satirical redevelopment of Milan in L’Adalgisa (1944), his third major narrative. The event is part of the EJGS Conference Series and coincides with the launch of the Edinburgh Gadda Prize in the Decennial of the EJGS. The proceedings will be published in EJGS as one of the 10 events making up the Decennial Special Edition.
