Welcome to the Edinburgh Gadda Prize
The Edinburgh Gadda Prize is powered by the Edinburgh Journal of Gadda Studies (EJGS) and the Edinburgh Gadda Projects. Founded in 2000 to celebrate Carlo Emilio Gadda, one of the literary greats of European Modernism, EJGS has since grown into a formidable network making Edinburgh the premier centre for the promotion of Gadda studies worldwide. Building on the success of the EJGS formula, the Prize provides an international platform to recognise scholarly brilliance, while also promoting young creative talent in both Scotland and Italy. This is achieved through an innovative combination of scholarly and community projects.
The Prizes
The Prize (first edition 2010) has a biennial international edition in Scotland and an interim junior edition in Italy, again biennial. The Scottish edition, Edinburgh Main, is in four Prizes, three of them scholarly – The Crolla Amato Gadda Prize, Gadda First and Novecento in Saggio – and one a junior award open to secondary schools in the country, Scottish Gadda Juniors. The Italian junior edition, Gadda Giovani (first edition 2011), is open to secondary schools in Abruzzo, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Lazio, Lombardy, Molise and Sardinia, all areas Gadda wrote about extensively, and leads to National Finals in Milan (2011), Montecassino (2013), Udine (2015) and Cagliari (2017).
The Next Pilots
In 2012-2013 we will conduct two further pilots: il Gaddus Scholars, as part of Edinburgh 2012, and Montecassino 2013, combining il Gaddus, Gadda Giovani and the Nicola Benedetti Scholarships project.
The Next Events
il Gaddus Scholars, the Junior Winners Labs and International Gadda Juniors, Fabrizio Gifuni’s award winning show Gadda va alla guerra and the Award Ceremony for all Prize Categories – in sum, Edinburgh 2012 will take place at ECA Edinburgh College of Art, the Scottish Storytelling Centre, the Traverse Theatre and the University of Edinburgh, from Thursday 20 to Saturday 22 September 2012.
